Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "John Burger, Rochester."

This is the mark of John Burger who founded the family's pottery under this stamp and ran it from 1854-1867 (William Ketchum, American Stoneware, p. 74).

This beauty sports a Semi-Squared Rim, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Freehand Capacity Number "2", and a Elaborate Open Tulip Decoration.  The tulip is executed with a slip cup in bright cobalt blue and is composed of five base leaves and a blossom with five petals.  All the decoration is accented with fine lines.  Stands 13 3/4" tall.

Excellent Condition.  A flat 3/4" chip on top of the spout, a narrow 1/2" chip on the back bottom, and some scattered light staining.  That's it!  No hairlines, cracks, or restoration.  A kiln tough on the right shoulder and an indentation with 1 1/2" inside at the front bottom in the making and glazed over.
