Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Preserve Jar made and stamped by "John Burger, Rochester."

This is the mark of John Burger who founded the family's pottery in Rochester, NY using this stamp and ran the pottery from 1854-1867 (William Ketchum, American Stoneware, p. 74).

This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Freehand Capacity Number "2", and a Large Tulip Decoration Executed with a Slip Cup.  The tulip boasts five accented leaves, and a blossom with alternating striped and cross hatched petals.  The decoration is precise, crisp, and executed in dark and shiny cobalt.  Stands 10 3/4" tall.

Excellent Condition.  A 3/8" chip inside the rim and on the underside at the edge, and couple light stains.  That's it!  No outer rim chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.  A kiln touch on the front to the right near the bottom in the making.

A John Burger preserve jar with exquisite tulip decoration in excellent condition.
