Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug marked "JHL".
This is the mark of John Henry Long of Crawford County, Georgia (born 1877), possibly the son of Henry Newton Long. Long was one of many potters in Crawford County whose whiskey jugs were exported to Macon by wagon. In 1898, he is listed as one of the leading potters of the county. He ran the family pottery from 1895 to 1902. See John Burrison, Brothers in Clay: The Story of Georgia Folk Pottery, pp. 131-133, 141-144.
This beauty features a larger 2 Gallon Size, an Olive Green Alkaline Glaze, and the Pottery Stamp "JHL" on the Top of the Handle. Stands 7" tall.
Very Good Condition. Two chips on the spout (1/4", 1/2") and some exfoliation on the underside. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A glaze skip on the bottom of the left side in the making.
