Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jar made and stamped by "Julius Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the mark of Julius Norton who ran the family pottery under this stamp from 1838 to about 1844 (See William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp 41-44).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Triple Honeysuckle Decoration. This was one of Norton's early signature decorations. Stands 11 3/4" tall
Very Good Condition. Water glass staining inside and some outside. Four 1/4" chips on the lid seating ring inside and six 1/4" chips inside the outer rim. A 1/2" chip under the left handle. No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
