Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 1/2 Gallon Stoneware Jar made and stamped by "Julius Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the mark of Julius Norton who ran the family pottery under this stamp from 1838 to about 1844 (See William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp 41-44).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Butterfly Decoration. This was one of Norton's early signature decorations. Stands 10" tall
Very Good Condition. A series of small chips (1/4" or less) around the lid-seating ring and inside the rim, and some very light scattered staining. That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A small partial stone ping on the bottom edge in the making (closeup).
