Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Unusally Large 6 Gallon Stoneware Preserve Jar made and impressed for the merchant "L. G. Paul & Co., 143 Blackstone St., Boston."
The decoration indicates that this jar was made by the Ottman Brothers of Fort Edward, N.Y. William and Gilbert Ottman who ran their company from 1872-1892 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , p. 68).
Circa 1880, this beauty sports a Very Large Size, the Merchant Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Freehand Stylized Floral Bouquet in Bright Cobalt found on Ottman Stoneware. Stands 16 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Three minor chips and a 1" chip on the lid seating ring, a narrow 1" chip inside the rim, a 1/2" chip on the base, and some scattered light staining. No outer rim chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
