Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Uncommon Large 1 Gallon Spongeware Butter Crock with Original Lid. 
 
Circa 1900, this beauty features "Butter" Stenciled on the Front and Sponged with Three Rings of Controlled Circles.  Matching Lid.  Strong cobalt too!  Measures 6" tall and 8 1/2" wide across the top.
 
This large gallon size is very hard to find, especially with the original lid. 
 
Very Good Condition.  The base has three chips on the base (1/4" to 1/2").  No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  A 4" drying/firing line inside in the back that shows as a fine 1" line outside in the making (closeup).  Some chips on the underside at the edge that are also mainly in the making.  The lid has a 5/8" chip on the side of the knob, and six small chips on the top edge (1/4" or less) with some minor nibbles.  No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
