Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Large Yellow Ware Quail on a Nest Soup
 
Dating to the arly 20th century. They were made as candy dishes or serving pieces and ranged in sizes from 3" to 11" in length. They can also be found as hens or ducks on a nest. There is a smaller version of this dish shown in Lisa McAllister, Collector's Guide to Yellow Ware, Book III, p. 89. 
 
This beauty features the Classic Nesting Quail Decoration with Brown Tureen. Glaze on the Basketweave Nest.  Gorgeous yellow coloration.  The base measures 11" long, 7" wide and 3 1/2" tall.
