Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Lidded Storage Jar whose decoration indicates that it was made by Asa Smith, his son Asa, and Howard Hobart who worked in Norwalk, Connecticut from about 1849 to the early 1860's (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 58-60).
This beauty features the Storage Jar Form with a Tall Rim and Recessed Seating Ring for the Lid, and a Large Brushed Cobalt Tulip. Stands 12 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A minor 1/4" chip on the lid seating ring, a 1/2" chip on the underside at the edge, and some light staining from use. No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. The lid is as made. A stone ping below the rim on the front in the making.
