Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Script Jug made for "H. A. Loveland,Wines & Liquors, Herkimer, N.Y."
It was made and stamped by the Ottman Bros of Fort Edward, N.Y. William and Gilbert Ottman ran the pottery from 1872-1892 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 68).
It comes from a family where it has resided since original purchase. I can find no other sale record for a jug with this merchant name on it.
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp and Four Lines of Large and Bold Printed Cobalt Script! Just gorgeous. Stands 13" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1/2" chip on the top of the spout on the left side, a 1/4" flake at the base, and a thin layer of molasses inside on the bottom. No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
