Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "F. B. Norton Sons, Worcester, Mass."
This is the mark of Frank Norton and his sons who operated the pottery in Worcester using this mark from the late 1870's to 1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 52-53).
The jug was made for the merchant, "M. Burke, Marlboro, Mass."
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Large Cobalt Script Advertising. Some letters are 3" tall! Stands 13 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1/4" chip and a 1/2" ping together on the right side of the spout, and some scattered staining, mainly in the back. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Loss to the cobalt from bubbling in the making.
