Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this attractive 4 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "M. Woodruff, Cortland."

This is the work of Madison Woodruff who ran the pottery in Cortland, New York from 1849-1885 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 71).

This beauty sports a Tooled Rim and Shoulder, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and an Elaborate "Tulip" Plant with Many Leaves and Four Blossoms.  The stem and leaves were created with a slip cup and the blossoms with a brush.  Bright cobalt exudes from the decoration.  Measures 11" and 11 1/2" wide across the top.

Excellent Condition.  A 1 1/4" chip on the rim on the left side, a 3/8" chip under the left handle and two small chips on the right handle (1/8", 1/4").  No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  Small bubbles in the thickest part of the cobalt in the making.
