Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Rare 1 Gallon Pitcher with Embossed Stag Hunt Motif.

Based on a signed example that sold at Crocker Farm on July 20, 2019, the pottery is Thomas Locker (1823-1875) who worked at the Swan Hill Pottery in South Amboy, New Jersey.  Locker and the owner of the pottery, James Carr, tried to find a market for their molded stoneware with marginal success (M. Lelyn Branin, The Early Makers of Handcrafted Earthenware and Stoneware in Central and Southern New Jersey, pp. 198-203).

Circa 1855, this beauty features a Scalloped Edge, Twig Handle, Oak Branch Trim Around the Rim, Two Mounted Hunters on One Side and Three Dogs and a Stag on the Other, and a Footer Decorated with Large Ivy Leaves.  Rockingham glaze.  Stands 9 1/2" tall to the top the handle.

Excellent Condition. A minor pinhead-nibble on the rim, and a 1/4" chip by the rear foot of the front horse.  That's it!  No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
