Item 88844
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this monumental 6 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "Adam Caire, Po'keepsie, N.Y."
This is the mark of Adam Caire who ran the pottery in Poughkeepsie from 1878-1896 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 65).
This beauty features a Large Size, the Pottery Stamp, and a Large Bird on a Stump Decoration. The birdie stands proudly on the large branch like George Washington crossing the Delaware! The decoration is 9" tall and 9" wide. Measures 13 1/4" tall and 13 1/2" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. A 1/2" chip on the base and some scattered very small stains. That's it! No rim chips hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Cheesecloth waves in the sides from the making.
It is amazing that a crock this size with an open top is not cracked!
