Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "N. A. White & Son, Utica, N.Y."
This is a mark of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery in Utica, New York from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , pp. 70-71).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Large Brushed Cobalt Orchid Decoration. Four leaves support a blossom and three buds. The decoration is created with a slip cup and brush in rich and dark cobalt. Stands 14 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. A pinhead-size nibble on one leaf. That's it! No chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. The spout leans slightly right and a kiln touch on each side in the making.
