Item 1130
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "N. A. White & Son, Utica, N.Y."
This is a work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 69-70).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and one of White's Signature Decorations: The Double Orchid Executed with a Slip Cup and Brush. The orchid has 2 leaves, two blossoms, and 5 buds. The stem and the outline of the two blossoms are done with a slip cup and the rest of the decoration with a brush. Gorgeous! Measures 9" tall and 10 1/2" wide across the top.
Excellent Conditon. A 1" chip on the underside of the right handle and some scattered light staining from use. No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Roughness around the inside of the rim from sticking to another crock in the making.
