Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful early 3 Gallon Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "N. Clark & Co., Lyons."
This is the work of Nathan Clark who ran the pottery in Athens, New York and a satellite pottery in Lyons, New York from 1822 to 1852 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 66, 73).
This beauty sports a Seriously Ovoid Form, Tooled Squared Spout, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, a Freehand "3" Capacity Number, and a Brushed Cobalt Tulip. Stands 15 1/2" tall.
Comes most recently from an estate in western New York.
Very Good Condition. A 1" chip on top of the spout, some nibbles around the spout, three chips on the base/underside edge of the bottom (1/2" to 1"), and some scattered lighter staining from use. No hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A clay flip on the left shoulder in the making.
