Item 9843
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jar from New Brighton, PA. This is indicated by the Monogram of "N" & "B" on the front in script.
This was one decoration used by the pottery of Elverson, Sherwood, and Barker of New Brighton in their early days before the stenciled "E. S. & B." This company was in business from 1881-1890 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 140-142).
Dating to the 1880's, this beauty features Salt Glaze, a Freehand "2" Capacity Mark, and the "NB" Monogram. All the decoration is in strong cobalt blue. Stands 11 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. A shallow 1" chip inside the rim as shown. That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
