Item 8972
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this superb 1 Gallon Wax Sealer Canning Jar made by the "New Geneva Pottery."
This is the mark of Alexander Conrad who made stoneware in New Geneva from 1870-1882 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 164-165).
This beauty features the Wax Sealer Form with Tooled Grooved Rim and Shoulder, Canted Sides, and the Company Advertising Framed by a Wavy and Straight Stripe Above and a Wavy Stripe Below. The pretty cobalt really stands out on the light gray glaze. Stands 9 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1/2" surface ping line on the inner rim and two minor and narrow chips inside the outer rim (1/8", 1/4"), and a narrow and flat 1" flake on the underside at the edge. That's it! No outer rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Some light mottling in the glaze in the making.
