Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Early 3 Gallon Stoneware Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "N. White, Utica."
This is the mark of Noah White who established his pottery in Utica, N.Y. in 1838. It ran until 1907 under him, his sons, and his grandsons (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 69-70).
Dating early in Whites career, around 1840, this beauty features a Large Size, Ovoid Form, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Dash, Brushed Cobalt Tulip and Capacity Number "3". Stands 15 1/2" tall.
Very Good Condition. A minor 1/8" chip inside the spout, a 1" chipped spot on the spout, couple flakes on the side (1/4", 3/4"), and four chips on the bottom edge (1/4" to 3/4"). No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A firing line on the shoulder in the back where the handle meets the jug in the making (closeup).
