Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this gorgeous 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "O. L. and A. K. Ballard, Burlington, VT."
This is the mark of Orrin and Alfred Ballard who ran the family pottery under this stamp from 1856-1867 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 46).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp and Capacity Number with Cobalt Wash, and a Large Brushed Triple Folk Art Flower in Strong Cobalt Blue. The flower is comprised of a stem with seven leaves from which three sizeable dotted blossoms emerge. The cobalt is 11 out of 10! Stands 14 14" tall.
Very Good Condition. Two pinhead-size nibbles and three small chips on the spout (1/4" to 3/8"), a narrow 1/4" chip in the upper right blossom, and a narrow 1 1/4" chip on the bottom edge. No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
