    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Ovoid Jar whose decoration indicates that it is the work of William and Moses Porter of Luthersville, Pennsylvania in Clearfield County.

     

    William and Moses Porter founded their pottery in 1853 and ran it until 1865 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 112-113). 

     

    This beauty features an Ovoid Form, Small Rooled Rim, Squared Handles, and Their Distinctive Sideways Tulip Decoration.  Stands 9 1/2" tall.

     

    Very Good Condition.  A chip on the rim on the front (1 1/4") and back (1 1/2") and a 1/2" chip on each handle.  No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
