Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1/2 Gallon Stoneware Jar attributed to R. J. Grier of Chester County, Pennsylvania.
Ralph Grier and family ran a pottery in Mount Jordan, Chester County, Pennsylvania from the 1840's to 1910 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 12-13).
Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features a Carefully Tooled Rim to Allow a Covering to be Tied Over the Top and Under the Rim, and Four Brushed Cobalt Leaves in the Distinctive Grier Style. Strong Cobalt. Stands 8 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1/4" flake inside the rim and on the bottom ring of the tooled rim. That's it! No outer rim outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
