    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Milk Bowl attributed to R. J. Grier of Chester County, Pennsylvania.

     

    Ralph Grier and family ran a pottery in Mount Jordan, Chester County, Pennsylvania from the 1840's to 1910 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 12-13).

     

    Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features a Carefully Tooled Rim, Canted Sides, Tooled Shoulder, and Three Cobatl Dots Down the Spout and Five Brushed Cobalt Leaves around the Middle.  Measures 5" tall and 11 1/2" wide across the top.  

     

    Very Good Condition.  An 1/8" nibble inside the rim and a nearly invisible 2" hairline from the rim (closeup).  That's it!  No outer rim or base chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.  A short 1 1/2" drying/firing line on the center underside that is not quite closed in the making.
