Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 5 Gallon Stoneware Ovoid Jar made and stamped by "R. W. Russell, Beaver, PA."
This is the mark of Ralph W. Russell of Beaver, Pennsylvania. Russell ran the pottery in Beaver in the 1840's to his death in 1868 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, 143-44).
This beauty features a Larger Size Tooled Rim, Pottery Stamp, Cobalt Accents at the Handle Terminals, and a Garland of Four Brushed Cobalt Tulips Underscored by a Broad Stripe. The decorator spared no expense on the cobalt-- it fills the front. Measures 15" tall and 12" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. Water glass staining inside and some traces outside. No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
