Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Rare Butter Crock made by the Whites Pottery of Utica, N.Y.
It reads, "Columbian Exposition, Utica, 1893."
This beauty features intricate Top and Bottom Hexagon Borders and the Advertising in Very Fancy Script in the Middle. Measures 4 3/4" tall and 6" wide across the top.
This piece is a wonderful example of the skill that the Whites Pottery had gained in molded stoneware during those years. You can see this crock in Christopher Bensch, The Blue and the Gray: Oneida County Stoneware, p. 25.
Excellent Condition. Some waterglass staining inside near the bottom, and a pinhead-size and an 1/8" nibble inside the rim. That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
