Item 9697
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Rare 1 Gallon Stoneware Canteen made by the Whites Pottery of Utica, New York.
Dating between 1890 and 1907, this piece is a wonderful example of the skill that the Whites Pottery had gained in molded stoneware during those years. This piece is not found in Christopher Bensch, The Blue and the Gray: Oneida County Stoneware, and is the only the second example I have ever had to sell.
This beauty features a Bordered Scene with Two Polar Bears in a Pine Forest (possibly auditioning for a Coca-Cola commercial!). There are also floral handle holders, bail handle, and a fancy border around the back (which once likely had a merchant paper label. Measures 9 3/4" in diameter and 4 1/2" wide.
Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind!
