Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1/2 Gallon Stoneware Jar with Floral Garland easily attributed to Richard Remmey who ran the family pottery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from the 1860's until the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-10).
Circa 1860, this beauty features a Squared Rim, Tooled Shoulder, and a Garland of Three Brushed Cobalt Flower Around the Middle. Each flower has six leaves and a blossom resembling a cluster of grapes. The cobalt is rich and shiny. Stands 9" tall.
Excellent Condition. Two minor 1/8" nibbles on the base edge. That's it! No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A 1/2" chip on the base edge in the making and glazed over.
