    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Stoneware Jar made by "Richey & Hamilton, Palatine, W. VA ."

     

    Richey and Hamilton made pottery in Palatine (modern Fairmont) from around 1870-1890 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 100).

     

    Dating around 1880, this beauty features a Tooled Rim with Broad Cobalt Stripe, Applied Handles with Cobalt at the Terminals, and the Pottery Advertising Surrounding a Floral with Another Above and the Capacity Number and a Second Stripe Below.  Bold cobalt on a light gray glaze for maximum visual delight.  Stands 12" tall.

     

    Fair to Good Condition.  Two chips at the base (1/2", 3/4").  A glued crack on the front from the rim to the center floral and a branch off to under the left handle (closeup).  No rim chips or stains.
