    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Jar made and stamped by "S. Bell & Son, Strasburg, VA."

     

    Samuel Bell and his Son, Turner Ashby, potted together in Strasburg around 1880-1890 (H. E. Comstock, The Pottery of the Shenandoah Valley Region, pp. 72-73, 74)

     

    This beauty features a Carefully Tooled Rim with Recessed Groove for Ease of Tying a Cover Over the Top, the Pottery Stamp, and Three Units of Comma Vining in Dark Cobalt Blue.  Stands 9 1/2" tall.

     

    Excellent Condition.  Three small flakes on the rim (1/8" to 1/4").  That's it!   No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
