Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Jar made and stamped by "S. Bell & Son, Strasburg, VA."
Samuel Bell and his Son, Turner Ashby, potted together in Strasburg around 1880-1890 (H. E. Comstock, The Pottery of the Shenandoah Valley Region, pp. 72-73, 74)
This beauty features a Carefully Tooled Rim with Recessed Groove for Ease of Tying a Cover Over the Top, the Pottery Stamp, and Four Units of Brushed Cobalt Comma Vining. Stands 9 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Four chips on the bottom edge (1/4" to 3/4"). That's it! No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
