Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "S. Hart, Fulton."
This is the stamp of Samuel Hart who potted in Fulton, New York with this stamp from 1840-1876 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 74-75).
This beauty features a Squatty Plump Form, Tooled Shoulder, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Freehand Capacity Number "2" riding a Tornado, and a Bird with Dotted Breasts also riding a Tornado. This style of bird was a signature decoration for this potter. Bold cobalt! Stands 12 1/2" tall. Comes with a hand-carved oak stopper apparently made for this jug.
Excellent Condition. A minor 1/8" nibble on the spout and some scattered light staining. That's it! No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
