Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "S. Hart, Fulton."
This is the stamp of Samuel Hart who potted in Fulton, New York with this stamp from 1840-1876 (see William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 74-75).
This beauty features a Squatty Plump Form, Tooled Shoulder, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Freehand Capacity Number "4", and a Pair of Love Birds with Dotted Breasts. The love birds were a signature decoration for this potter. These birds are especially large and well-drawn. Measures 14 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. A narrow 1 1/4" chip on the base edge, faint 1/2" line at the base of the handle on the right side (closeup), and overall light staining from use. No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Some bubbles in the cobalt on the right side tailfeathers in the making.
