Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Uncommon 3 Gallon Ovoid Crock made and stamped by "S. Hart, Oswego Falls."
This is the stamp of Samuel Hart, who, along with his brother James, founded a kiln in Oswego Falls (latter called Fulton) in 1832 and used this mark from 1832 to 1840 when James left the business. William Ketchum, Jr., Potters and Potteries of New York State, 1650-1900, 2nd ed., pp. 386-388).
This beauty features an Ovoid Form, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Large "3" Capacity Mark within a Cobalt Wreath. Measures 12 1/2" tall and 10 1/2" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. Six chips around the outside of the rim (1/4" to 3/4"), and three chips on the base/underside (1/2" to 3/4"). No inner rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
