Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this gorgeous 2 Gallon Cake Crock with Tulips.
It is stampe RCR under on handle indicating that it was made by Richard Remmey who ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1860's until the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-10).
Circa 1860, this beauty features a Larger 2 Gallon Size, Tooled Rim and Shoulder, Applied Handles with Cobalt Accents, and a Brushed Cobalt Garland with Tulips Around the Top. The cobalt is dark, rich, and shiny. Measures 6 3/4" tall and 12" wide across the top.
Fair to Good Condition. On one side: a 1/4" chip on the rim and a 2 3/4" crack from the rim by the handle (closeup 1). On the other side: a crack from the rim by one handle to the base and back up to the rim by the other handle (closeups 2-4). The damage has been glued and repainted years ago and is need of it again. Still displays well from one side. No inner rim or base chips or stains. The bottom is damage free.
