Item 7104
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Decorated Stoneware Cake Crock Stamped "RCR."
This is the work of Richard Remmey who made stoneware in Philadelphia at the family pottery from the 1860's to the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-9).
Circa 1870, this beauty features a Finely Tooled Rim, Inscibed Shoulder, Applied Handles with Cobalt Accent, and Four Large Brushed Cobalt Tulips on Each Side. All the decoration is executed in strong cobalt. Visually pleasing contrast between the light gray background and the dark cobalt decoration. Measures 6 1/2" tall and 11 1/2" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. A couple small flakes and a 1" chip and 1" hairline next to it on the rim on one side, and a 2 1/2" hairline from the rim on the other side as shown. A minor 1/2" chip on the underside at the edge. No inner rim chips, stains, or restoration.
