    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Jar made and stamped by "S. Bell & Son, Strasburg."

     

    Samuel Bell and his Son, Turner Ashby, who potted together in Strasburg around 1880-1890 (H. E. Comstock, The Pottery of the Shenandoah Valley Region, pp. 72-73, 74).

     

    This beauty features a Carefully Tooled Rim, the Pottery Stamp, and Three Units of Comma Vining in Cobalt Blue.  Stands 9 1/2" tall.

     

    Excellent Condition.  An 1/8" nibble on the rim, a 3/8" chip on the body near the base, and a 1" chip at the base.  No inner rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  A 1" surface drying/firing line inside the rim in the making.
