Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Bowl made and stamped by "Solomon Bell, Strasburg, VA."
Solomon Bell was one of the most famous of the Bell Family Potters, working as a potter in Strasburg from the early 1850's until his death in 1882 (H. E. Comstock, The Pottery of the Shenandoah Valley Region, pp. 373-74).
This beauty features a Tooled Flared Rim Designed for Easily Tying a Cover Over the Top, Tapered Sides, Pottery Stamp, and Three Comma Vines. Measures 5 1/4" tall adn 10 1/4" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. Four minor 1/8" nibbles on top of the rim, and six small chips under the rim (1/8" to 1/2"). No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
