    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "F. Stetzenmeyer, G. Goetzman, Rochester, N.Y."

     

    This is the mark of Frederick Stetzenmeyer who ran the pottery in Rochester together from 1849 to about 1860. He had a associate, a grocer, Gottlieb Goetzman, during some of that period (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).

     

    This beauty sports a Semi-Ovoid Form, the Stetzenmeyer/Goetzman Pottery Stamp, Freehand Capacity Number 2, and a Fancy Plant Executed with a Slip Cup.  The plant has five leaves accented with stripes, with a stem of dashes and a stem of dots inbetween.  Stands 14 1/2" tall.
