Item 10476
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Decorated Stoneware Cuspidor Spittoon.
The form and decoration make it easy to attribute this spittoon to Richard Remmey who ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1860's until the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-10).
Circa 1870, this beauty features Six Large Brushed Cobalt Leaves around the Outside. The generous, dark cobalt creates an exuberant garland. Measures 4 1/4" tall and 8 1/4" wide across the base.
Excellent Condition. A minor 1 1/4" hairline on the bottom in the back that wraps under 1/2" (closeup), and a 1 1/4" chip on the underside at the edge in the back. No rim chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
