Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful decorated 1 Gallon Jar attributed to Henry Remmey, Jr. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Henry Remmey, Jr. ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1820's to the 1850's (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-10).
Dating about 1850, this beauty features a Tall Form, Rounded Rim, Tooled Shoulder, and Four Brushed Cobalt Florals around the Middle. The flowers each have six leaves and a blossom with five petals. All the cobalt is thick, rich and dark and set against a medium gray glaze to make a very pleasant contrast. Stands 10 1/4" tall.
Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. A 3/8" chip on one blossom in the making.
