Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Jar with Wreath Decoration.

The form and decoration on this jar indicate that is was probabaly made by Theodore Gustave Daub of Easton, Pennsylvania.  Daub worked from the 1870's to his death in 1891 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 29-30).

Dating around 1880, this beauty features a Wide, Tooled Rim, Squatty Form, and Brushed Cobalt Wreath.   The jar as a whole has a lot of eye appeal.  Stands Semi-Ovoid Form, Finely Tooled Rim, Applied Handles with Cobalt Accent, and a Garland of Freehand Vining Around the Shoulder with a Dangling Tulip on Each Side.  It took 38 brushstrokes of cobalt to make the decoration. The cobalt is generous, bright, and shiny on a light gray glaze for strong contrast.  Stands 8 7/8" tall.

Good Condition.  A u-shaped hairline on the rim on the left side (closeups) and a small stain on the back.  No chips, cracks, or restoration.
