    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Decorated Stoneware Jar.


    This is the work of Richard Remmey who made stoneware in Philadelphia at the family pottery from the 1860's to the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-9). 
     
    Circa 1860, this beauty features a Tooled Rim and Shoulder, and a Garland of Three Brushed Cobalt Tulips around the Middle.  The tulips have 10 to 14 leaves and a blossom with 4 petals.  One of the tulips has an inscribed four leaf clover in the blossom and in the leaves (closeups).  All the decoration is executed in strong cobalt.  Stands 10 1/8" tall.

     

    Excellent Condition.  A single 1/8" nibble on the rim.  Otherwise as made.
