Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Rare 8" Wax Sealer Canning Jar att. to Stephen Ward of

    of West Brownsville, Pennsylvania.

Stephen Ward took over the pottery of Offord and Federer in West Brownsville in 1867 and ran it until about 1880. He only worked 6 months a year with a two man crew, so not many pieces were made and fewer survive (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, p. 174).

This beauty featues a Tooled Rim with a Groove for the Hot Wax Sealer, and Four Brushed Cobalt Stripes Framing a Stenciled Cluster of 3 Cherries.  Stands 8 1/4" tall.

Excellent Condition. A narrow 1 1/4" glaze wear spot on the inner rim, three small chips inside the outer rim (1/8" to 3/8").  That's it!  No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.

A great example of the Pennsylvania Stoneware Fruit Jar.
