Item 10546
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this superb 2 Gallon Decorated Pitcher.
The flower with the circle between the stem and petals makes a probable attribution to Mauldine Perine or his former associate, William Linton of Baltimore, Maryland. Perine and sons worked in stoneware from approximately 1827 to after 1900, and Linton made stoneware from 1845 to 1867 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 98).
Circa 1850, this beauty features a Larger 2 Gallon Size, Tooled Rim and Spout, Tall Neck, Bulbous Body, Tooled Footer, Applied Handle, and Cobalt Decoraton. Four leaves drape around the rim, two decorate the sides, and additional cobalt is found at the handle terminal. But the real attraction is a Large Double Floral that Fills the Front. Eight leaves at the base give way to two leafy stems hosting three blossoms each. Approximately 90 brushstrokes of cobalt! Stands 13 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. A single 1/4" flake on the juncture of the spout and rim on the left side. Otherwise as made! Remarkable condition.
