Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Superb 4 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Satterlee & Mory, Fort Edward, N.Y."

This is the stamp of George Satterlee and Michael Mory who ran this pottery together from 1859-1885 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 68).

This beauty sports a Larger Size, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Splendid Large Brushed Cobalt Bird on a Floral Bouquet Decoration.  The artist had a large canvas and used it!  The bird is 12" from the tip of her beak to the tip of her tail.  She is poised on an elaborate floral bouquet with so many leaves and dots it could substitute for a nest.  And the cobalt is bright, shiny, and gorgeous!   Stands 16 3/4" tall

The best bird decoration by this maker that I recall ever having to offer.

Excellent Condition.   A 1/2" chip on the bottom edge, and some light staining from use.  No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.

Excellent Condition.  A minor 1/8" nibble and narrow 1/2" chip on the left side of the spout, and some very light staining.  That's it!  No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.  A small kiln touch and salt drip below the bird's tail in the making.
