Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Jar made by "T. F. Reppert, Successor to Jas. Hamilton and Co., Greensboro, PA."
This is the work of Thomas Reppert who worked in Greensboro solo from 1884-1890 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners , pp 157-58).
This beauty features a Broad Stripe Accenting the Rim, a Broad Stripe and a Wavy Stripe Defining the Shoulder, the Company Advertising centered around a Floral with Tulips in the Upper Corners Filling the Middle, and the Capacity Number Flanked by Leaves and Underscored with a Broad Stripe Concluding the Decoration at the Bottom. Complete and crisp stenciling and bold freehand-- all in strong and dark cobalt. Stands 14" tall.
This jar reflects Reppert's attempt to market his stoneware by association with James Hamilton whose pottery he purchased and who was extremely successful in pottery sales. Stands 11 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Some light scattered staining. Otherwise, as made!
