Item 8758
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this superb 3 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "T. Harrington, Lyons."
This is the work of Thompson Harrington who ran the pottery in Lyons from 1852 to 1872 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 73-74).
This beauty sports a Tall and Narrow Form, the Freehand "3" Capacity Number, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Brushed Cobalt Tulip Filling the Front. The tulip sports six base leaves and a blossom with eight petals. Bright and shiny cobalt as was typical of Lyons stoneware. Exceptional contrast. Stands 16 1/8" tall.
Excellent Condition. Shallow chips on the very top of the spout and some small, faint and isolated staining. That's it! No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A narrow kiln touch and slight recess to the left of the decoration in the making.
