Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Ovoid Jar made and stamped by "Thomas D. Chollar, Cortland" (some cobalt bubbling in the pottery stamp, but quite readable)
Thomas Chollar worked in Cortland, New York with Joseph Darby from 1839-1849 and this jar was made at the beginning or end of that period (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , p. 71).
This beauty sports an Early Ovoid Form and the Pottery Stamp with Generous Cobalt Wash. Stands 9 1/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 1/2" chip on the rim and an invisible 2" hairline from the rim in the back.
