Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Superb 4 Gallon Cream Pot made and stamped by "W. H. Farrar, Geddes, N.Y."
This is the work of William H. Farrar who worked in Geddes (Syracuse) from as early as 1840 and intermittently until 1868 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, 70).
This beauty features an Intricated Tooled Rim, Strong Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Freehand "4" Capacity Number, and Three Brushed Cobalt Tulips Decoration. The tulips have two large leaves, small leaves on the stem, and three blossoms with four petals each. Vivid, rich cobalt was used throughout the decoration. Measures 11 1/2" tall and 12" wide.
Excellent Condition. Three 3/8" flakes on the right side, and two chips on the underside at the edge (1/2", 1 1/2"). No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A stone ping on the bottom front edge to the right in the making.
Quite remarkable condition for a large open crock of this age!
